Your Iowa AGvocate -- Ag Teacher by day, Farmerish by night
Encouraging you to live a life of grace + grit

Hello, welcome! We are Michael & Kylie Nettinga and we are so glad you’re here.

Michael and I have both gotten the pleasure to grow up in the great state of Iowa where both of us lived and breathed the farm life. Michael grew up on a 80 cow Dairy & Crop farm in Northwestern Iowa while I grew up on a diversified animal and hay farm in Southeastern Iowa.

Both of us pursued degrees in agriculture following high school. Michael pursued a degree in Dairy Sciences & Technology at Northeastern Iowa Community College. Kylie attended Iowa State University and received a B.A. and masters degree in Agricultural Education. Both careers brought Michael back home to his hometown, and I across the state to teach high school agriculture in the same town that Michael grew up in.

Even though we lived 5 blocks away from one another in our small town, our paths crossed in the fall of 2018 and it only took one tractor ride to know that we were made for each other :) In the winter of 2019 we made it official and have been living the agricultural life ever since.

We are excited to continue to share our story with you as we AGvocate for agriculture, share our farm stories & show you how to live a life of grace and grit.

On the Farm

While Michael and I don’t directly live on the farm, we are just a mile away. Whenever we can we enjoy working with the cows and assisting during planting and harvest season.

AGvocacy + Ag News

Michael and I are passionate about AGvocating—sharing the truth and story that agriculture holds. With less than 1.9% of the population producing food, we want you to know where your food comes from and what we are doing to ensure you have the best quality product.

We also believe it’s important to know what is happening in agriculture so that you can be informed about how to advocate for your part in agriculture.

Ag Education Resources

For 8+ years I have been serving as an Agricultural Educator and FFA Advisor at our local private high school. From Animal Science, Plant Science, starting a program, building a greenhouse and teaching mechanics, I’ve gathered a few resources along the way that I hope to share with those of you that are also ‘here by the owl.’ :)
